In the first days our goals are to get to know the grade 9 students, establish some expectations and share some resources for being successful in transitioning to Foothill!






Tuesday, October 18
SYNOPSIS

FIRE - No travel

DISCUSS: End of quarter 1

DETAILS
  • Sit together in FIRE zone
  • Put phones away
  • Take attendance
  • Students use their Chromebooks to look at Canvas and Q...
    • Find missing assignments that can still be completed/submitted
    • Determine what assignments/projects are due this week
    • Write down if they have tests or quizzes this week to study for
    • Decide where extra effort should be made to have impact on improvement
  • Use FTHS agendas to begin planning how to spend the advisory this week

Connect with one another, school work or travel as needed

DETAILS
  • Sit together in FIRE zone
  • Put phones away
  • Take attendance
  • Agendas out and ready to write/share plan for the week
  • Set up for in-room work or sign out for appropriate travel
    • Students should have a written goal for traveling
    • This is a "why I need to travel" statement
  • Leader(s) sit with students and connect/work alongside
    • Once everyone is set, leader should check on travelers

  • Two Truths and a Lie

  • Pictionary (on the white board)
  • Decorating desk tent cards (for names)
  • Life information bingo cards
  • Name of famous person on their back and trying to ask questions to figure it out
  • Kahoot of your choice
  • What Did You Do This Summer - pair and whole group sharing
  • Q&A about first days of school
  • Monster drawing (trifold, one person draws top, one middle, one bottom)
  • Any card game you have available
  • Any board game you have available
  • Get out the Legos and let them build and chat
  • Put "freshdragon" on white board and come up with words/character traits for each letter
    • Something similar with student names
  • ​Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza
  • If you have paper plates, you could do the drawing on the top of the head (similar to baby shower game)

NO FIRE ON FRIDAY, 10/14, DUE TO RENAISSANCE RALLY FROM 11:55 - 12:55

DETAILS
  • Sit together in FIRE zone

  • Take attendance
  • Students use their Chromebooks to...
    • Students should check their Canvas and Q grades to make sure that they are not missing work or that the two sets of grades match closely 
    • We have 2 weeks left in Quarter 1

    • Students do not need to share their grades with leaders

  • Use FTHS agendas to begin planning how to spend the advisory this week
